Heilwig of Bronckhorst. Gerhard III of Holstein-Rendsburg ( c. 1292 – 1 April 1340), sometimes called Gerhard the Great, and in Denmark also known as Count Gert or den kullede greve ("the bald count"), was a German prince from the Schauenburg family who ruled Holstein-Rendsburg and a large part of Denmark during the interregnum of 1332–40.
Gerhard VI. Schauenburg von Holstein-Rendsburg, Count of Holstein-Rendsburg, Duke of Schleswig, was born circa 1367 to Heinrich II. von Holstein-Rendsburg (c1317-aft1384) and Ingeborg zu Mecklenburg (c1340-1395) and died 4 August 1404 Battle of the Hamme of battle wounds.
She was a daughter of Gerhard VI of Holstein-Rendsburg and his wife, Catherine Elisabeth of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Her brother was Adolf VIII/I, Count of Holstein/Duke of Schleswig . Through their father, they were cognatic descendants of King Eric V of Denmark (1249–1286) while through their mother, they were cognatic descendants of King Abel of Denmark (1218–1252). [5]
Gerhard VI., Sohn des Grafen Heinrich II. aus der Rendsburger Linie des Hauses Schauenburg und der Ingeburg von Mecklenburg, war nach dem Tod seines Vaters um 1384 Graf von Holstein-Rendsburg. Er teilte sich die Herrschaft über Holstein-Rendsburg mit seinem Onkel Nikolaus und seinem jüngeren Bruder Albrecht II. , während der dritte Bruder Heinrich zunächst die geistliche Laufbahn einschlug.
He was the second son of Count Gerhard III of Holstein-Rendsburg and his wife, Sophia of Werle. He ruled Schleswig jointly with his elder brother Henry II from 1375 to 1384, thereafter alone. In 1386, he abdicated as Duke of Schleswig in favour of Henry II's son Gerhard VI of Holstein-Rendsburg , who was confirmed as Gerhard II as Duke of Schleswig by King Olaf II of Denmark .
