John Petty-FitzMaurice, 1st Earl of Shelburne (Irish Peerage) Apparently the title "Earl of Shelburne" was also held by John's uncle, Henry Petty, but became extinct when he died in 1751. The title was recreated for John 225 on 26 Jun 1753. Born c. 1700; died in May 1761. Son of Thomas FitzMaurice, 1st Earl of Kerry.
John Petty Fitzmaurice, 1st Earl of Shelburne PC (Ire), known as John FitzMaurice until 1751 and as The Viscount FitzMaurice between 1751 and 1753, was an Anglo-Irish peer and politician. He was the father of William Petty FitzMaurice, Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1782 to 1783.

Henry Petty, 1st Earl of Shelburne; Anne, who married Thomas Fitzmaurice, 1st Earl of Kerry. Neither Charles nor Henry had male issue and the Shelburne title passed by a special remainder to Anne's son John Petty, 1st Earl of Shelburne, who took his mother's surname, and whose descendants hold the title Marquis of Lansdowne.
