Eli And The Thirteenth Confession starts with three songs of beautiful and contagious exuberance, which in a way work as a kind of "bridge" from her debut album: Luckie, lively with rhythm, well orchestrated, with reeds; Lu, featuring reeds, a "jazz" guitar, and multiple vocals; and the quite famous - at the time - Sweet Blindness, featuring a fine Nyro performance on piano.

Sure I was aware of her writings thanks to the releases by Fifth Dimension and Three Dog Night. But to hear her sing - she had such power and passion! And her arrangement of Eli and the Thirteenth Confession blew Three Dogs Night right out the window.

Nyro schrieb hiefür alle Songs selbst und wirkte auch bei der Produktion mit. Musikalisch ist "Eli" vielschichtig, oft opulent, mit Jazz-Instrumentierung und Streichern, mit mehrfach aufgenommenen Gesang, der oft ungestüm, manchmal fast opernhaft, aber stets unverwechselbar ist.

8 de feb. de 2021 · Eli and the Thirteenth Confession was in many ways Ms. Nyro's first complete musical statement, and as such it was the first to exhibit her overall mastery of the LP. Although many of the lyrics are ambiguous and even downright silly, one can't help but find several over-arching themes from song to song and throughout the record.
