  4. Albany died at Stirling Castle and was buried in Dunfermline Abbey. His son, Murdac (or Murdoch) Stewart, succeeded him as 2nd duke of Albany and regent but was seized in 1425 on the orders of James I on unrecorded charges and tried and executed. The dukedom of the first creation became extinct.
