Luisa Francisca de La Baume-Le Blanc nació en Manoir la Vallière, Tours, el 6 de agosto de 1644 en familia de la pequeña nobleza provinciana, realista y muy católica. Su padre, señor de La Vallière, barón de Maisonfort, era gobernador del castillo real de Aubisse, y su madre Francisca Le Prevost, viuda de un miembro del Parlamento de París.

El título de Duque de La Vallière es un título nobiliario francés creado por el rey Luis XIV de Francia para su amante Luisa de La Vallière (1644-1710).
