10 de oct. de 2017 · Alice Lee Roosevelt’s life changed forever on September 14, 1901, when President William McKinley succumbed to his wounds eight days after being shot by an assassin. Vice President Theodore Roosevelt was quickly sworn in as the President of the United States.
Alice was a lively personality, known for her exuberant spirit. But she was also a representative of the United States government in the person of its president, Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt Jr., Alice’s father. Teddy had become president in 1901 upon the assassination of William McKinley, and was elected for a full term in 1904.
Alice Lee Roosevelt Longworth (1884-1980) was the only daughter of Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt. She was born on February 12, 1884. Her mother and paternal grandmother died two days later. Her aunt, Anna Roosevelt, raised her until her father married Edith Kermit Carow in December 1886.
