William Pitt the Younger (grandson) Richard Temple, 1st Viscount Cobham (brother) Hester Grenville, 1st Countess Temple, 2nd Viscountess Cobham ( née Temple; c. 1690 –1752) was an English noblewoman. She was the mother and grandmother of the Prime Ministers George Grenville and William Grenville .
Pitt married Hester Grenville, daughter of Richard Grenville and Countess Temple, in 1754. In 1756, Pitt became secretary of state during the early stages of the Seven Years' War. During his tenure, Pitt focused the country's military strategy on confronting the French at sea and in the colonial areas of both North America and India.

On 4 December 1761, she was created Baroness Chatham, of Chatham, in the County of Kent, with remainder to her sons by William Pitt. He was later created Earl of Chatham in 1766. William Pitt (the Elder), 1st Earl of Chatham. Earl of Chatham, of Chatham in the County of Kent, was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain.It was created in 1766 for William Pitt the Elder on his appointment as Lord Privy Seal, along with the subsidiary title of Viscount Pitt, of Burton Pynsent in the County of Somerset, also in the Peerage of Great Britain.

Most of the letters are addressed to influential political figures such as Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney; Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville; and Count Semen Romanovich Vorontsov.
