Georg died on 6 July 1963 in Sigmaringen aged 63. He was interred alongside his first wife in the family vault in Inzigkofen, Sigmaringen. Georg’s elder son Georg Alexander succeeded as head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His widow Charlotte survived him by twenty six years dying on 23 July 1989 at the age of 68.

Duke Georg Alexander Michael Heinrich Ernst Franz Ferdinand Maria of Mecklenburg (born 17 July 1991 in Freiburg im Breisgau). Married civilly in Mirow Palace, on 17 June 2022 and religiously in Neustrelitz on 17 September 2022 to Hande Macit, born in Tarsus, on 16 September 1992, only daughter of Suphi Macit and wife Cemile Uçar. Duke of Mecklenburg. Since the death of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI in February 1918, Georg’s uncle Duke Carl Michael was the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. As his uncle was the sole male dynast in order to secure the survival of the grand ducal house on 11 September 1928 he adopted Georg and his family as his heirs.
Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz with his wife and their children: Catherine, Maria, Natalia and George. Georg Alexander was head of the committee for the fifthy anniversary of the career of Anton Rubinstein celebrated in 1889. After Rubinstein’s death in 1894 his family gave his conducting baton to Duke Georg Alexander.
26 de ene. de 1996 · Duke Borwin succeeded as head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz on 26 January 1996 upon the death of his father Duke Georg Alexander. Due to the terms of the 1701 Treaty of Hamburg , with the death of Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Franz of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on 31 July 2001 Duke Borwin became head of the entire House of Mecklenburg.
13 de abr. de 2024 · The baptism of His Highness Duke Georg Leopold Borwin took place at the Church of Our Saviour, in The Hague, on Saturday 13 April 2024. The baptism service was conducted by Father Sjaak de Boer, who had co-officiated at the religious wedding of Duke Leopold’s parents, Hereditary Prince Alexander and Hereditary Princess Hande.
