Born to the Spencer family at Althorp, Georgiana (pronounced ‘jaw jayna’) was the eldest of three children born to John, the future 1st Earl Spencer and his wife Margaret Georgiana.

Her husband had inherited a vast fortune and belonged to one of Englands most powerful families. The connection was certainly a very suitable one but the marriage soon became unhappy.
