Arthur, Duke of Rothesay (20 October 1509, Holyrood Palace – Edinburgh Castle, 14 July 1510). James V (Linlithgow Palace, 10 April 1512 – Falkland Palace, Fife, 14 December 1542), the only one to reach adulthood, and the successor of his father.

The duke ultimately returned to France in 1524, leaving Margaret as regent for the remainder of James V’s minority. Visitors to Stirling today can stand in the same spot that, 500 years ago, Margaret Tudor refused entry to some of the most important nobles in Scotland.

Duke of Rothesay [ ˈrɒθ.si] ( schottisch-gälisch Diùc Baile Bhòid, deutsch Herzog von Rothesay) ist ein britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of Scotland, der nach Rothesay Castle auf der Isle of Bute benannt ist. Arthur Stewart, Duke of Rothesay was the second son of James IV of Scotland and Margaret Tudor, and had he outlived his father, he would have been King of Scotland. Career At birth, the infant was created both Duke of Rothesay and Duke of Albany.
