In 1953, Churchill received the Nobel Prize for Literature, in recognition of his extensive writing as well as for his speeches throughout his career as a statesman. That same year, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

I unreservedly recommend this and the other three volumes to anyone wanting a high-level (but certainly not superficial) look at the history of these islands.

Among the English-speaking peoples, Churchill considered Britain and the Unitied states in particular "united by other ties besides those of State policy and public need."
