The late boxing trainer Al Silvani plays himself in the movie and is credited as “Cut Man” for Rocky. Silvani, a New Yorker, trained Nino Benvenuti in the late ’60s and also worked Floyd Patterson’s corner during his infamous 1965 bout against Muhammad Ali.

Sinatra sang the National Anthem before Mauriello’s 1942 fight with Lou Nova at Madison Square Garden and the singer later purchased a little piece of the Bronx Barkeep who fought Joe Louis for the world heavyweight title in 1946.

Silvani's earliest roles were in film, including the comedy "Ocean's Eleven" (1960) with Frank Sinatra, "Cape Fear" (1962) and the George Segal comedy "The Black Bird" (1975). He also appeared in "Rocky" (1976) with Sylvester Stallone.
