It was there, in April 1890, that he was involved in a carriage accident that resulted in a serious head injury. Morgan never regained consciousness, and on April 8, 1890, he died at the age of seventy-six. He was survived by his four children: John Pierpont Morgan, Sarah Spencer Morgan, Juliet Pierpont Morgan, and Mary Lyman Morgan Burns.
