"Casey at the Bat" is an American 8.5-minute animated short film from 1946, so this one had its 70th anniversary last year. If you take a look at the writers, director and voice actor you will find names that are not too well-known anymore today, but back then they were really prolific and added their individual touch to many many cartoons.
The 1916 silent film adaptation featured DeWolf Hopper Sr., known for his theatrical recitations of the poem. Though not portraying Casey himself, Hopper’s involvement added cultural heft to this timeless story. Like all its predecessors and successors, the film zeroes in on Casey’s much-anticipated but ultimately failed at-bat.
