29 de oct. de 2019 · Upon the death of President Harrison, John Tyler was sworn in as the 10th President of the United States. His oath was administered on April 6, 1841. Due to the absence of any legal framework in the Constitution providing for the death of a sitting president, Tyler could not take for himself a vice president.

Not much is known about his childhood though he grew up on a plantation in Virginia. His mother died when he was only seven. At twelve, he entered the College of William and Mary Preparatory School.

8 de ene. de 2019 · John Tyler's wife Letitia Christian had a stroke in 1839 and could not perform the traditional First Lady duties. She had a second stroke and died in 1842. A little less than two years later, Tyler remarried to Julia Gardiner who was 30 years younger than him. They married secretly, only telling one of his children about it in advance.
