It depicts Gilbert Marshal (1194 – 1241), Fourth Earl of Pembroke, and third son of the First Earl [[[4360990]]], brother of the Second Earl [[[4360997]]] and the Third Earl, Richard. He was the son of John Fitz Gilbert (John the Marshal) by his second wife, Sybil, sister of Patrick de Salisbury, 1st earl of Wiltshire. In 1189 king Richard gave him in marriage, Isabel, countess of Striguil and Pembroke, daughter of Richard de Clare (see Clare family ), who brought him position and lands in England, Ireland, and Normandy as well as in Pembroke and Gwent.
William Marshal, husband of Richard's daughter Isabel, "was invested as Earl of Pembroke 27 May 1199 by King John." This makes Richard's father Gilbert the 1st Earl of Pembroke, Richard the 2nd, Gilbert the 3rd & Isabel's husband William Marshal the 4th. So I'm not sure where 5th comes from for this profile.

Gilbert Marshal, 4th Earl of Pembroke (1194 - 27 June 1241) was the 3rd son of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1146-1219) and Isabella de Clare (1172-1240), the daughter of Richard de Clare. Gilbert acceded to the title of Earl of Pembroke on 11 June 1234 , on the death of his elder brother Richard who had died childless.
