Esmé Stewart, 2nd Duke of Richmond, 5th Duke of Lennox (1649–1660) who died aged 10 in 1660, whereupon both titles descended to his first-cousin Charles Stewart, 3rd Duke of Richmond, 6th Duke of Lennox (1638–1672). Lady Mary Stewart (10 July 1651 – 4 July 1668), Baroness Clifton in 1660; married Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Arran. No issue.

For his war services, he was due to be created Earl of Lichfield, but died before the formalities were completed, and the title was instead awarded to his nephew Charles Stewart (1638–1672), later 3rd Duke of Richmond, 6th Duke of Lennox. Leben. Charles war der einzige Sohn des Charles Lennox, 1.Duke of Richmond, und dessen Gemahlin Lady Anne Brudenell.. 1721 trat er als Offizier in ein Gardekavallerieregiment der British Army ein. 1739 wurde er zum Brigadier-General, 1742 zum Major-General, 1745 zum Lieutenant-General und im selben Jahr schließlich zum General befördert.
