24 de sept. de 2023 · About Henry Plantagenet of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster, 4th Earl of Leicester and Lancaster, KG "Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster, 4th Earl of Leicester and Lancaster, KG (c. 1310 – 23 March 1361), also Earl of Derby, was a member of the English nobility in the 14th century, and a prominent English diplomat, politician, and soldier.
Henry of Grosmont, Duke of Lancaster, (c. 1310 –1361) Blanche of Lancaster, Baroness Wake of Liddell , ( c. 1305 - c. 1380 ) married Thomas Wake, 2nd Baron Wake of Liddell Maud of Lancaster , (about 1310–1377); married (1) William de Burgh, 3rd Earl of Ulster (died c. 1333 ) and (2) Ralph de Ufford, Justiciar of Ireland (died 1346), and had descendants by both.
Henry's marriage to Isabel of Beaumont produced only two daughters, Maud born 4 April 1339 and Blanche, born on 25 March 1345.Maud was married to William I, Duke of Bavaria, but died, without children, soon after her marriage, her portion of the inheritance passed to her sister Blanche, who married Edward III's third son John of Gaunt, whereby Gaunt inherited Lancaster's estates and titles.
She married Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster in 1337. Isabel bore Henry two daughters who would eventually inherit their father's estates: Maud, Countess of Leicester (4 April 1339 – 10 April 1362), married William V, Count of Hainaut. Died without surviving issue.
Henry of Grosmont{{was the only son of Henry, 3rd Earl of Lancaster (c. 1281–1345); who in turn was the younger brother and heir of Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster (c. 1278–1322). They were sons of Edmund Crouchback, 1st Earl of Lancaster (1245–1296); the second son of King Henry III (ruled 1216–1272) and younger brother of King Edward I of England (ruled 1272–1307).
