Along with their mother, Frances Polidori Rossetti, both women sat for one of his very first paintings, the grand depiction of The Girlhood of Mary Virgin, where Christina took on the role of Mary, while her mother posed as St. Anne, the mother of Mary.

Christina Rossetti was not a voracious, but rather a focused, reader. Apart from the Bible, Thomas à Kempis, St Augustine, Plato, Homer and the classics in Italian, her adult reading was largely in the religious literature of her day (W. Rossetti 1904, pp. lxix–lxx). 1 She appears uninfluenced by a number of authors and works we would expect her to have appropriated.
On 5th December 1830, Christina Rossetti was born in London. She was one of the four offspring of Italian guardians. Her father was the artist Gabriele Rossetti. Dante Gabriel Rossetti was her brother and he turned into an artist and a painter. Rossetti’s first sonnets were written in 1842 and imprinted in her granddad’s private press.
