The Lady and the Duke (French: L'Anglaise et le Duc, lit. 'The Englishwoman and the Duke') is a 2001 historical romantic drama film written and directed by Éric Rohmer, based on the memoirs Ma vie sous la révolution (Journal of My Life During the French Revolution) by Grace Elliott, a Scottish royalist caught up in the political intrigue following the French Revolution.

Rohmer’s films, often presented as parts of a multi-episodic series – Contes moraux (Six Moral Tales, 1963-72), Comedies et Proverbes (Comedies and Proverbs, 1981-87), Contes des quatre saisons (Tales of the Four Seasons, 1990-98) – explore the awkward romantic entanglements, emotional upsets, and moral dilemmas that ensue when characters are caught between two or more objects of desire.
20 de ene. de 2017 · For Rohmer, who depicts mankind in relation to nature better than anyone else, the snow setting was so important to the theme of the movie that he was willing to gamble his entire production and meaning of the film on the proclivity of the weather. Luckily for him, it did snow, and this excellent film exists. 3. The Aviator’s Wife (1981)
