He is principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture. His work culminated in designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster in Westminster, London, England, and its iconic clock tower, later renamed the Elizabeth Tower, which houses the bell known as Big Ben.

Edward Welby Pugin (11 March 1834 – 5 June 1875) was an English architect, the eldest son of architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and Louisa Barton and part of the Pugin & Pugin family of church architects.   5. Pugin var sønn av en fransk arkitekt og tegner som lærte sønnen å tegne gotiske kirker og arkitekturdetaljer. Augustus Welby Pugin fikk sin grunnskoleutdanning som dagelev ved Christ´s Hospital, bedre kjent som Blue-Coat School. Han ble snart elev under sin far og var med ham blant annet til Normandie for der å studere forisk arkitektur.
