  3. The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a 53 bedded unit. Patients are referred to the AMU by their GP or by the Emergency Department because they need to see a specialist in internal medicine.

  5. The Emergency Department (A&E) cares for patients who are acutely ill, or have life or limb threatening problems. These include: Sudden, rapid swelling of lips, mouth, throat or tongue. The majority of people, however, who attend the Emergency Department have minor, non life-threatening or limb-threatening injuries and illnesses.

  6. Eye Casualty is for serious eye accidents and emergencies that have occurred in the last 48 hours, such as: Chemical liquids splashed into the eye. Remember your first aid treatment: flush your eye with plenty of lukewarm water. Cuts or lacerations to the eye lids. Penetrating eye injury.

  7. Battle Day Unit is a nurse-led minor procedure and medical infusion unit for day-case only patients. Our aim is to reduce hospital admission, relieved pressure from the front door and reduce length of stay in hospital. Patients are referred to the unit from a variety of specialist services.
