At Clare Museum, you will hear the history of the County over 6,000 years using authentic artefacts, colourful text panels and audio-visual presentations. Ennis is famous for Irish Music, and Irish music can often be heard when one takes a walk through Ennis’s cobbled streets and lanes, which is the subject of the world-renowned ‘Siege of Ennis’ polka.
The Clare Roots Society, brainchild of Ennis man Larry Brennan, was formed in April 2006 as an amateur family history, genealogy and heritage group in County Clare. Looking at more recent times, research has been undertaken on two branches of Protestant Crowe families who were prominent in County Clare in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. It is only with commencement of baptism, marriage and burial records by the Church of Ireland in Ennis in the early 1700s that it is possible to identify the genealogical connections among family members.
