William Pitt the Younger. Pitt lived and died a bachelor, totally obsessed with political office. He was clever, single-minded, confident of his own abilities, and a natural politician. But perhaps his greatest asset in the early 1780s was his youth. He had entered Parliament in 1780 and was just 24 when he became first minister in 1783.

2 de nov. de 2022 · William Pitt was born on 28 May 1759 to William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham (often referred to as ‘the Elder’) and his wife Hester Grenville. He hailed from political stock on both sides, with his father serving as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1766-68 and his maternal uncle, George Grenville, serving as Prime Minister from 1806-7.

Hijo de William Pitt el Viejo , ingresó en la Universidad de Cambridge donde se graduó en Derecho (1780). Inició su carrera en el partido whig, siendo elegido diputado al año siguiente de su licenciatura. Como canciller del Exchequer formó parte del gobierno de Shelburne (1792), siendo destituido al poco tiempo.
William Pitt was educated at Eton, and, in January 1727, was entered as a gentleman commoner at Trinity College, Oxford. There is evidence that he was an extensively read, if not a minutely accurate classical scholar; and it is noteworthy that Demosthenes was his favorite author, and that he diligently cultivated the faculty of expression by the practice of translation and re-translation.
