Cheviots are usually kept for their wool, with each sheep providing up to 10 pounds of fiber per shearing. It is classified as a dual-purpose breed of sheep.

History Etymology. The name Aq Qoyunlu, literally meaning "those with white sheep", is first mentioned in late 14th century sources.
