The Rains of Ranchipur is adapted from the novel The Rains Came, which was published 18 years earlier. But this is not the first adaptation of the novel to be done. Only two years after the novel was done, the movie The Rains Came was released and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, also getting multiple nominations in the technical categories.
