Of his 12 sons, four represented Bury in the Commons but the deaths of his two eldest sons, Carr Hervey, styled Lord Hervey until his death in 1723, and the notorious courtier and wit, John Hervey †, styled Lord Hervey from 1723 and summoned by writ of acceleration as Baron Hervey in 1733, meant that at his demise the peerage descended to his grandson, George William Hervey †.
