3 de abr. de 2008 · WERGO presents Morton Feldman's more than four hours lasting trio "For Philip Guston" with the ensemble Breuer Engler Schrammel. Feldman disagreed with those who regarded his pieces since the 1970s as too long. "In music, it's very difficult to distinguish between a thing's proportions and it's form," he wrote.

For Philip Guston (1984) is quintessential--and very essential--Morton Feldman. His studies of pitch and notational austerities under John Cage produced one of the most unique voices in late 20th century American music. Feldman, who died in 1987, had also befriended a number of New York art world luminaries and the painter Philip Guston was one.

My brain creates erratic compositions to fill the empty light, but there is no solid ground. What is before me lies in the empty yet overwhelming grasp of darkness.
