William Kent (1684-1748) es el arquitecto más significativo del primer período del pintoresquismo inglés, creador de lo que conoce como jardín inglés y principal difusor de Palladio en Inglaterra. Empezó como pintor, hizo su Grand Tour a Italia y en Roma conoció a lord Burlington, que consiguió que se interesara por la arquitectura.
