In the area of music, a chief catalyst was the Chicago Musical College (CMC), founded in 1867. Nancy Newman, associate professor of Music and Theatre , is now at work on a book project that examines the CMC, one of the nation’s oldest conservatories, which operates today as Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.
