RMAS Today. Today, all those commissioned into the British Army are trained and educated at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. These include those who are destined for the regular and reserve forces, those with specialist qualifications such as doctors, dentists, lawyers and chaplains and those who are commissioned from the ranks.
The Sandhurst Collection also preserves and manages the archives of the academy. The archives contain records of the academy and its predecessors; the Royal Military College Sandhurst 1799-1939 and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich 1741-1939. It also maintains the archive of the current academy which was established in 1947.
The Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst is where the elite of the British Army train to be officers. Sandhurst, which lies some 30 miles (48 km) west-southwest of central London, is best known for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst at nearby Camberley in Surrey. Most of the potential regular officers for the British army undergo a course of general and military education as officer cadets at the academy, commonly called Sandhurst.
Academic study is an integral part in developing effective and professional military leaders. The courses provided by the Faculty for the study of Leadership, Security, and Warfare (LSW) Departments are purposely designed to develop an officer’s understanding and analysis of the human, operational and strategic context in which they will work.
