Woody really had me going there. For a good part of "Sweet and Lowdown" I thought Emmit Ray was a real Depression era jazz guitarist. Allen gives a convincing testimonial to the character onscreen along with other jazz "experts" and for Woody this film is a straightforward exercise with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
