2 de sept. de 2015 · William Bentinck was the youngest son of the second Duke of Portland, and was born on 14 April 1738. He attended Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford (where he informally added ‘Cavendish’ to his surname) before undertaking a 'Grand Tour' of Europe, during the latter stages of which he was elected MP for Weobley, Herefordshire, through his family’s interests.

Lady Dorothy Cavendish brought him £30,000. On the death of his mother in 1785 he inherited the Cavendish estates in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, estimated to be worth £12,000 p.a. 6. The 2nd Duke of Portland had no electoral influence; the 3rd Duke showed a turn for electioneering and made a success of it.
William Bentinck, Duke of Portland was born on 14 April 1738. He was the eldest son and third of six children born to the second Duke of Portland and his wife Margaret Cavendishe Harley. Portland's mother was the heir of the second Earl of Oxford. Portland was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. He was awarded an MA in 1757.
