Lord Herbert Hervey 1870-1960 (father of Victor, 6th Marquess of Bristol, and grandfather of the present Marquess of Bristol) became 5th Marquess of Bristol in later life after the death of his older brother Frederick, 4th Marquess of Bristol in 1951. The 5th Marquess spent a large part of his working life abroad, in particular in South America.
Frederick William Hervey, 2nd Marquess of Bristol PC, FSA (15 July 1800 – 30 October 1864), styled Lord Hervey from 1803 to 1826 and Earl Jermyn from 1826 to 1859, was a British Tory politician. He served as Treasurer of the Household under Sir Robert Peel between 1841 and 1846.
Frederick William Hervey, 5th earl and 1st marquess of Bristol (1769–1859), was born on the 2nd of October 1769. He married Elizabeth Albana (d. 1844), daughter of Clotworthy, 1st Baron Templetown, by whom he had six sons and three daughters. In 1826 he was created marquess of Bristol and Earl Jermyn, and died on the 15th of February 1859.

The two never saw each other again, although Hervey regularly corresponded with his children, including the youngest daughter Louisa, who lived with her mother.
