This portrait Kneller made this unusual oil study showing three views of the unwigged head of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 7th Earl of Winchilsea to guide a sculptor making a portrait of the Tory statesman. Another sitter of Kneller's, William Stukeley, wrote in his diary for 1720: '7 June. I sat to Sir Godfrey Kneller for my pictures.
