King Ludwig III was the last King of Bavaria, reigning from November 1913 until November 1918. He was born Prince Ludwig Luitpold Josef Maria Aloys Alfried on January 7, 1845, in Munich, Kingdom of Bavaria, now in Bavaria, Germany, the eldest son of Prince Luitpold of Bavaria and Archduchess Augusta of Austria. Luitpold was succeeded by his son Ludwig III, who became the last King of Bavaria in 1913. The 1918 November Revolution brought an end to the 700-year reign of the Wittelsbach family as dukes, electors and kings. There is no monument to King Ludwig III in Munich.
