13 de ene. de 2008 · Palliser, Hugh. Hugh Palliser, officier de marine et gouverneur de Terre-Neuve (Kirk Deighton, Angl., 26 févr. 1722/23 -- Chalfont St. Giles, Angl., 19 mars 1796). Il est officier de marine au siège de Québec en 1759, et est nommé gouverneur de Terre-Neuve en 1764.
Hugh Palliser Dibley, a descendant of Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty, Hugh Palliser, was a successful sports car driver of the 60s & 70s, while also being a pilot for BOAC. There's insufficient space here to list all of his accomplishments, but I would note that he drove some serious sports racing machinery.
In August 1765 in Chateau Bay, Labrador, 300 Inuit came to a multi-day gathering at the request of Newfoundland Governor Hugh Palliser. Palliser came in a ship with 350 men accompanied by two warships with 570 men. Two Moravian Brethren assisted Palliser as interpreters.
The estate was acquired by Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser. Following Palliser's death in 1796, the building passed to his son and was then sold to Thomas Allen in 1826; the house passed down the Allen family until it was sold to James Robertson in 1902.
