Sviatopolk II. Sviatopolk II Iziaslavich ( Old East Slavic: Свѧтополкъ Изѧславичь, romanized: Svętopolkǐ Izęslavičǐ; [a] November 8, 1050 – April 16, 1113) was Grand Prince of Kiev from 1093 to 1113. [1] He was not a popular prince, and his reign was marked by incessant rivalry with his cousin Vladimir Monomakh .
Yaropolk was the younger son of Yaroslav Vsevolodovich (who was the prince of Starodub or Chernigov when Yaropolk was born), by his wife Irene. [1] In 1196, prince Vsevolod Yurevich of Suzdalia refused to grant the citizens of Novgorod their request to replace his appointee Yaroslav Vladimirovich with his son or some other prince. [1]

Iziaslav was one of the authors of the Pravda of Yaroslav's Descendants – a part of the first legal code of the Russkaya Pravda. [4] [5] He is also credited with the foundation of the Kiev Pechersk Monastery.
