Christian Daniel Rauch (2. ledna 1777, Arolsen, Hesensko – 3. prosince 1857, Drážďany), jeden z nejdůležitějších sochařů 19. století, představitel německého klasicismu. Byl žákem Johanna Gottfrieda Schadow a zakladatelem berlínské sochařské školy.

His talent was soon spotted by Gottfried Wilhelm Schadow: Rauch became his assistant in 1803 and later received funds to study in Italy by the Prussian king. In 1815 he returned to Berlin, where he laboured tirelessly until his death. Rauch was one of principal proponents of the Berlin school that strove for greater naturalism in sculpture.
This portrait of Goethe modelled by Christian Daniel Rauch in 1820, was praised for its life-like qualities and appearance. Initially, the replica in plaster stood in Rauch’s Berlin workshop. Marks on its surface are a sign that for reproduction purposes moulds were made of the poet’s bust.

Das Christian Daniel Rauch-Museum ist eine Kooperation des Hessischen Ministeriums für Wissenschaft und Kunst und der Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, veranstaltet vom Museum Bad Arolsen in Zusammenarbeit mit den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Nationalgalerie.
