Fornieles invites you to join the family BBQ as an artificial Californian sun sets over the gallery. The exhibition evokes a distorted ‘Pinterest reality’ derived from the aspirational online image-sharing platform, which, along with home decor magazines, has come to present a contemporary definition of the American ‘good life’.

17 de ene. de 2019 · Ed Fornieles made a name for himself a few years back as the poster boy for post-internet art through a series of immersive performances in London, which included a gallery frat party at Guest Projects (“Animal House”, 2011) and an award ceremony honouring Zac Efron at Serpentine Gallery Pavilion (“The Dreamy Awards”, 2012).

It is precisely this transposition of utility that lies at the heart of Fornieles’ exhibition—forsaking the kind of data that makes meaningful market analysis possible, The Finiliar instead provides the viewer with instant aesthetic gratification; a daring move indeed.
In Addition to CEL, Ed Fornieles developed DEBRIEF (2019), a video work, which allowed each participant to reflect and talk about their experiences cultivated within the simulation. Participants described the environment of CEL as painfully familiar and some felt reminded of their teenage years, where violence was acceptable to demonstrate and maintain a position of power.
