John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset, 3rd Earl of Somerset, KG (25 March 1404 – 30 May 1444) was an English nobleman and military commander during the Hundred Years' War. He was the maternal grandfather of Henry VII .
A part of the Beaufort connection to the Somerset duchy, the title of Duke of Richmond was important as the earldom of Richmond had been held by his grandfather King Henry VII and by his great-grandfather Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond.

Edmund Beaufort, 1. Duke of Somerset KG (* um 1406; † 22. Mai 1455 bei St Albans, Hertfordshire, England) war ein englischer Adeliger und eine bedeutende Figur in den Rosenkriegen und im Hundertjährigen Krieg. Er war Lieutenant von Frankreich, Constable von England und kämpfte auf der Seite des Hauses Lancaster in der Ersten Schlacht von St Albans, in der er auch den Tod fand.
Er stammte aus der Adelsfamilie Beaufort und hatte 1418 von seinem Bruder Henry Beaufort, 2. Earl of Somerset den Titel Earl of Somerset geerbt, der 1397 seinem Vater John Beaufort, 1. Earl of Somerset verliehen worden war. Da er keine legitimen männlichen Nachkommen hatte, erloschen der Duketitel und der Titel Earl of Kendal bei seinem Tod am 27.
