However, Elizabeth‘s spymaster, Sir Francis Walsingham, had infiltrated the conspiracy, and the plotters were arrested and executed. Mary‘s involvement in the Babington Plot sealed her fate. She was put on trial for treason in October 1586 and found guilty.
