Lady Barbara FitzRoy. The Duchess of Cleveland gave birth to her final child, Barbara, on 16th July 1672…but the child was not Charles II’s offspring. Though Cleveland initially claimed that Barbara was Charles II’s daughter, and gave her the surname FitzRoy, the king refused to officially acknowledge her as his own.

Anne was the illegitimate daughter of King Charles II of England and one of his mistresses Barbara Palmer, 1st Duchess of Cleveland in her own right.
