1. A youth spent in a studio. Alberto Giacometti grew up in Switzerland in the Val Bregaglia alpine valley, a few kilometers from the Swiss-Italian border. Alberto Giacometti nació en Borgonovo, Stampa, (Suiza) en 1901, en el seno de una familia de artistas. Su padre era Giovanni Giacometti, pintor neoimpresionista y su tío, Augusto Giacometti, también era pintor. Desde muy temprana edad demostró una habilidad especial para la escultura y la pintura.
Alberto Giacometti fue un escultor suizo muy célebre cuyas obras continúan siendo influyentes hoy en día. Su escultura L'Homme qui marche I se vendió por más de 104 millones de dólares en 2010 y, otra de sus esculturas, L'Homme au doight, por más de 141 millones de dólares en 2015, siendo esta escultura la más cara del mundo más de medio siglo después de su muerte.
