Unter anderem studierte er bei Christian Thomasius, Bartholomäus Leonhard von Schwendendörffer und August Benedict Carpzov. 1683 ging er für ein Jahr an die Universität Jena. Zurückgekehrt wurde er Hofmeister der Prinzen Günther und August Wilhelm von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen.
