Dalam sesi ke-17 (Februari 1978) PBB / ECE, Kumpulan Pakar bersetuju bahawa kod abjad tiga-huruf untuk Piawai Antarabangsa ISO 4217: "Kod untuk perwakilan mata wang dan wang" adalah sesuai untuk kegunaan perdagangan antarabangsa.
