As she was the first born child of Frederick, Prince of Wales and the first born grandchild of George II of Great Britain and Caroline of Ansbach, Augusta was second in line for the throne of Great Britain, which changed a year later in 1738, when her brother Prince George (later George III of Great Britain) was born.
He was not permitted to go to England until his father took the throne as King George II of Great Britain on 11 June 1727. In fact, Frederick continued to be known as Prince Friedrich Ludwig of Hanover (with his British HRH style) even after his father had been created Prince of Wales.

Frederick Louis, also known as Friedrich Ludwig, was born in Hanover, Holy Roman Empire, and was the eldest son and heir apparent of King George II of Great Britain. Despite his position, he became estranged from his parents and was left in the care of his grand-uncle in Hanover for 14 years while his parents moved to Great Britain.

He was the eldest child of George I and Sophia Dorothea of Celle (l. 1666-1726). His parents' marriage had been one of political convenience, and there was little love between the two.
