26 de abr. de 2022 · Sir William II Longespée (c. 1212 – 8 February, 1250) was the son of William Longespée, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, an English noble. His death became of significant importance to the English psyche, having died as a martyr due to the purported mistakes, and arrogance, of the French at the Battle of Mansurah, near Al-Mansurah in Egypt.

Tomb of William Longespée. William Longespée, born circa 1176, was the bastard son of King Henry II and the half-brother of the infamous King John. In 1188, King Henry gave Longespée the estate of Appleby, Lincolnshire. In 1196, he was married to Ela of Salisbury, at which point he assumed the title of the Third Earl of Salisbury.

21 de ago. de 2023 · Notes. Ela Longespée was the daughter of William Longespée, 2nd Earl of Salisbury and Idoine de Camville.1 She married James of Aldithley, son of Henry of Aldithley and Bertred Mainwaring, in 1244.1 She died before 22 November 1299.1. Her married name became d'Audley.
