10 de feb. de 2021 · Nest is one of Robert Rich’s more serene albums. Inspired by a stay in Australia, it is populated by natural sounds that Rich recorded in Australia. These spare, alien sounding voices circulate through melodic fragments and textures that Rich deploys on piano, flutes, lap steel guitar, MOTM modular, glass and copper bells.

Notes by Robert Rich - August 2012: Maleny, Queensland Australia. February is summertime in this subtropical paradise. I heard dripping sounds late at night, on the wooden deck and leaves nearby, sparse percussion among cicadas and chirping tree frogs. I assumed it was condensation from morning’s light rain.
Rich remained productive, issuing solo works like 2006's pulsating Electric Ladder, a film score (2007's Atlas Dei), and further collaborations with Boddy as well as Markus Reuter and Faryus. After the release of a live archival series in 2009, Rich continued to issue studio albums, including 2010's Ylang and 2012's well-received ambient work Nest.

In the 1980s the electronic soundscapes sculpted by Robert Rich could be compared only to Steve Roach's in terms of complexity and psychological depth. In 1982, Rich began to perform "sleep concerts", continuous flows of soothing and static music (a` la Brian Eno's Music for Airports ), such as Trances (1983) and Drones (1983), a form that he would then abandon till Somnium (2001).
