It reached its current appearance during the 19th century, when Johann Adolf II von Schwarzenberg ordered the reconstruction of the castle in the romantic style of England's Windsor Castle. The Schwarzenbergs lived in Hluboká until the end of 1939, when the last owner (Adolph Schwarzenberg) emigrated overseas to escape from the Nazis.

The restitution concerns her grandfather Adolph Schwarzenberg’s property confiscated by the Gestapo in 1940 and since 1945 held by the Czechoslovak, and later the Czech state, in violation of the law and the constitution. In order to properly devote herself to the issue, Elisabeth acquired Czech citizenship and moved to Prague in 1993.

He especially cared for agriculture, forestry, fish-pond cultivation and industry on the Schwarzenberg estates. There he introduced new methods, new products and new business activities. He was chairman of a fish-pond cultivation company in Prague and Vienna and he also founded the Museum of Forestry on the Ohrada chateau near Hluboká.
In Wien lebte Elisabeth nicht nur mit ihren Eltern, sondern auch mit ihrer Tante, Prinzessin Eleonore Schwarzenberg und ihrem Onkel, Fürst Joseph Schwarzenberg, dem letzte Oberhaupt ihrer Familie.In den Jahren nach 1945 gelang es Elisabeth’s Vater, die Rückgabe der von der Gestapo 1940 in Österrich und Deuschland beshlagnahmten Besitzungen von Fürst Adolph Schwarzenberg zu erreichen.
